Greetings!
Thanks to you, I took the Oath of Office for the Florida House of Representatives on November 18th 2008. Since then I have been working very hard to serve the people of House District 88.
During November, I received four appointments to various committees, including an appropriations council and committee dealing with the health of our elders. I have also been appointed as a Deputy Minority Whip and have most recently joined the Minority Policy Committee, which I am honored to be a part of.
During Special Session I voted against a budget that made deep cuts to programs affecting our most dependent and frail citizens and emptied funding for our Florida Forever program. Additionally, I was the first freshman lawmaker to offer a bill on the House Floor (HB5A) to remove a loophole that unfairly allows million dollar real estate transactions the ability get away with not paying their fair share of documentary stamp taxes when selling property. I continue to believe that we must find additional revenues and reform our tax system here in Florida. Without reform, we are faced with diminishing revenues and an aging population - 19,000,000 residents strong - a recipe for disaster.
Thankfully, Governor Crist vetoed many of those cuts I argued against, sparing much pain to those living in Florida and House District 88.
This website will be updated for my re-election bid for 2010 very soon. Until construction ends, please have a look at some of the issues that are important to me, and feel free to email anytime at mark@markpafford.com if you have any questions at all. You may also contact me at 561-236-2626, my official re-election campaign phone number!
Thank you in advance for your support, again. That strong support allows me to be vocal and strong when it comes to supporting you, my neighbors and friends, 422 miles away in Tallahassee.
Sincererly,
